Here Are Some DIY Degreaser Tips You Should Know

For many homeowners and cleaners alike, figuring out whether to use a degreaser for their respective cleaning projects can pose quite a challenge in and of itself.

However, if you elect to go about your degreaser challenge on your own, there are a few rules you will need to follow.

When it comes to obtaining cleaning solutions that are best for arbitrary stain cleaning, degreasers are one of the best remedies you can use. In fact, if you don’t have a trusty degreaser at your disposal, then it can become especially hard to clean commercial kitchens, for example.

To that end, we made this DIY degreaser list so you can have some tips at your disposal beforehand.

Know when to use it

During your cleaning processes, you will notice that an all-purpose cleaner will be sufficient enough to get the job done. However, sometimes, it’s best to use a degreaser for some of the tougher projects like for removing heavily soiled areas and water-insoluble soils, too.

Sufficiently prepare and make sure to apply it correctly

One of the first things you should be aware of is that while some degreasers will get the job done quickly, it’s typically better to make sure they “settle” on the surface for a while prior to removal. This way, it will help dissolve some of those intractable soil stains. Also, make sure not to mix degreasers with other cleaning solutions, too. In addition, wear protective clothing like gloves, especially if you are going to be removing grout—in which case you should also wear goggles.

Select the correct size and type of degreaser for your needs

Degreaser products typically come in a variety of sizes for different cleaning projects. Depending on what you need, ready-to-use (RTU) degreasers are some of the best types you can use for virtually any project. With these kinds of degreasers, you’re getting the most optimal performance type overall. It’s also important to note that certain degreasers are green-certified, so it might be worth looking to see if the product has a Greenguard Gold Certification label, too.

Discern whether your floor needs a mop or degreaser

For some cleaning projects, a two-part bucket system might be your best option. This will help separate water from the cleaning solution for a more optimized solution cleaner. Additionally, make sure to use cold water when diluting degreasers. According to cleaning experts over at Avmore, this will “help prevent foaming and ensure the degreaser is diluted properly.”

Accompany your degreaser with the right tools for the job

This can vary depending on your situation, but sometimes it’s best to use degreasers that have auto scrubbers to clean the floors. During the winter time, it can be better to use a blue pad than a red one, too.
